    Six servers that let an AI assistant read — and sometimes change — your finances. The three questions that actually separate them: can it write, where does it run, and what leaves your machine.

    Pick it when: You want one assistant that can actually change things, you hold money in more than one currency, or you want the option to move the whole thing onto your own machine later without relearning anything.

    A hosted personal MCP server that connects your bank accounts and exposes them to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Gemini, with transfers, rules and savings goals. Era asks for permission on every action.

    Better than Wealthos when: You want the assistant to move money, not just plan it. Era supports transfers; Wealthos deliberately does not execute financial transactions.

    Advertises 30+ tools Claude can call — transactions, spending by category, budget checks, recurring charges — over a read-only connection that cannot move money.

    Better than Wealthos when: You want a hard guarantee the AI can never change anything. Read-only is a smaller surface to trust, and if transaction-level spending analysis is the whole job, that is what Spendify is built around.

    A read-only MCP server with separate permissions for balances, spending summaries, budgets and goals, so you choose what the assistant can see without sharing a bank login.

    Better than Wealthos when: You want per-category consent rather than one all-or-nothing token — the finest-grained permission model of the group.

    Copilot Money MCP

    A community server that reads Copilot Money's local cache on your Mac. Runs entirely on your machine and makes no network requests of its own. Its README is also unusually straight about the limit every server here shares: the assistant you connect still sends what it reads to its own model provider.

    Better than Wealthos when: You already use Copilot Money and want local, free, read-only access. If that describes you, this is the shortest path and it costs nothing.

    Monarch Money MCP

    A community bridge between Monarch Money and Claude Desktop, giving conversational access to the data already in your Monarch account.

    Better than Wealthos when: Monarch is already where your finances live and you want to query them by chat without changing tools.

    The privacy question, answered properly

    Several servers in this category are described as keeping your data on your device. For the server itself that is usually true. It is not the whole picture, and the difference matters more here than in almost any other software category.

    A local MCP server means no vendor holds your figures. But the AI client you point at it — Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor — sends whatever it reads onward to its own model provider as conversation context. Your balances still leave the machine. They just go to Anthropic or OpenAI rather than to the app's maker.

    There is exactly one configuration where nothing leaves: a local server plus a model running locally too. Any server that speaks plain stdio can do this — Wealthos Local does, and so does the community Copilot Money server, whose README is refreshingly direct about the same caveat.

    Where Wealthos fits

    Two things separate it from the rest of this table, and both are checkable. It is the only one that ships the same 46 tools as a hosted server and as a process on your own machine — identical names, identical behaviour, so moving between them changes nothing about how your assistant works. And it writes: it can create the plan, not just read the balance.

    What it will not do is move money. If you want an assistant that executes transfers, Era is built for that and Wealthos is not.
